2 Mins read

The Greensboro Coliseum vibrated with anticipation as a sold-out crowd gathered for AEW Revolution 2024. The air crackled with a bittersweet energy – tonight marked the legendary Sting’s final match. Five AEW Championships hung in the balance, but all eyes were on the main event: a nostalgic clash between Sting and Darby Allin against the Young Bucks.

Early Encounters and Championship Battles

The night kicked off with a flurry of title defenses. Christian Cage retained the TNT Championship against a determined Daniel Garcia, thanks in part to some “morbid” tactics and referee distractions. Eddie Kingston battled it out with Bryan Danielson for the Continental Championship, with Kingston emerging victorious and finally earning Danielson’s elusive handshake.

The All-Star Scramble Match was a chaotic yet entertaining spectacle. Wardlow emerged triumphant from the carnage, with a standout moment being Hook pulling off a simultaneous RedRum and Lion Tamer. Roderick Strong defeated Orange Cassidy for the International Championship, leaving some to wonder if Cassidy’s character needs a refresh.

Show-Stealing Matches and Controversial Finishes

The Blackpool Combat Club delivered a brutal and bloody brawl against FTR, showcasing their resilience and determination. The crowd roared their approval for the hometown heroes, FTR, making for a truly electric atmosphere.

Will Ospreay and Konosuke Takeshita put on a dazzling display of athleticism, pushing each other to their limits. The match was a technical marvel, with both wrestlers showcasing breathtaking moves and near-falls that had fans on the edge of their seats.

The World Championship match, featuring Samoa Joe, Swerve Strickland, and Hangman Adam Page, faced a difficult task of following Ospreay and Takeshita’s masterpiece. Swerve’s entrance was electric, with the crowd chanting “Swerve’s House!” However, the ending left the audience with questions. Page, seemingly within reach of the title, tapped out suspiciously, leaving fans debating his motivations.

An Emotional Farewell: Sting Says Goodbye

The main event was a nostalgia trip for wrestling fans. Ric Flair and Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat graced the ringside, adding a touch of history to the occasion. A touching video package chronicled Sting’s illustrious career, filled with iconic moments from WCW and his AEW tenure.

The match itself was a wild ride, filled with high-risk maneuvers and near-falls. Sting’s “sons,” a Surfer Sting and a Wolfpac Sting, made surprise appearances, further amplifying the emotional impact. Darby Allin took a terrifying bump, flying through glass from a high ladder. Despite the brutality, Sting remained a defiant figure, no-selling moves and kicking out of multiple finishers.

In the end, Sting and Allin secured the victory, with Sting thanking the Greensboro crowd and delivering a heartfelt farewell address. His closing words, “I’ve got to wait, I’m getting cues, hold on,” hinted at a possible return, leaving fans with a glimmer of hope.

AEW Revolution 2024 was a night of mixed emotions. There were thrilling championship matches, breathtaking high spots, and moments of pure chaos. However, the evening belonged to Sting. His final match was a fitting tribute to a wrestling legend, leaving a lasting impression on the hearts of fans worldwide.
